Uncle Bardie’s Weekly Music Pick: What Becomes of the Broken Hearted

It’s Thursday again. You know what that means. Uncle Bardie’s Weekly Music Pick. Uncle Bardiie gives a double thumbs up to this week’s selection. Joan Osborne performing “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted”:

I didn’t know a thing about the Funk Brothers. Then the documentary and live performance film, “Standing in the Shadow of Motown”, came out. It gave me the straight dope of the instrumental band at Motown for all those great songs. Of all the special performances in the documentary, Joan Osborne’s version of the Jimmy Ruffin hit, “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” was just It. Since seeing that performance, I have followed Joan Osborne’s career and am still blown away by how she delivers a song. What that career illustrates is that a very talented musician can have a great career without being in the limelight. So here’s a great song and a great singer. Enjoy.
