Once a week on Friday, Uncle Bardie celebrates the creativity in others by shining a Spotlight on a movie, a song or a creator. It’s Black History Month and this week’s Spotlight Creator is Medgar Evers:
It was a time when Giants walked the land. Giants like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Cesar Chavez, Rachel Carson, Rosa Parks, Betty Friedan, Joan Baez, Bobby Kennedy and Medgar Evers. These were folks who often put their lives on the line in the fight for justice. Today I want to honor one of those people, Medgar Evers.
If you believe your vote don’t count, tell that to Medgar Evers. It cost him his life because he was trying to register citizens to vote. He knew something we often forget. Our vote does count. If it doesn’t, why is it that there are those who want to take the vote away or prevent citizens from voting? And who would murder a man for trying to register citizens to vote?
