Once a week on Friday, Uncle Bardie celebrates the creativity in others by shining a Spotlight on a movie, a song or a creator. This week’s Spotlight is the Julie London’s version of “Cry Me a River“:
I’ve heard Diana Washington, Diana Krall and Miss Ella sing “Cry Me a River”. But none of those great singers do this song quite the way Julie London does. A wonderful thing about this version is the instrumentals behind the vocals. They are so stripped down. Just enough to let Julie London pour her heart into that song and give it the feeling it deserves. And if there was ever a sexier singer I don’t know of them. Unless it was Rita Hayworth. Here’s Julie London’s “Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered” and all I have to say is Wow.
